“Getting what you want, and wanting what you get”, 1 Samuel 8. As Samuel became old, the Elders of Israel didn’t see a future with Abiah,

and Joel as judges. That was a good call due to their immoral conduct. However rather than trusting God completely for a remedy, they demanded their solution be accepted from Samuel and ultimately God. At the end of the day, the king they so desired would not be the King of all creation...and there would be consequences. Choosing any other king over the KING OF KINGS will always lead to death and destruction.
